Weighing
Putting something on scales to learn what it is worth — the act of converting quality into a number that can be compared.
Weighing in a dream is the dream's image of the act of comparison — taking a thing whose value was held by feel and asking the scales to give it a number. The weighing is not the trade; it is the step before the trade. The dream brings the act when something in your life — a job offer, a relationship, a piece of your own behaviour — is currently being put deliberately on a balance to find out what it actually is, in terms a decision can use. A weighing done carefully, with the scales clean and the reading honest, is the dream affirming that the comparison was fair. A weighing with the thumb on the pan is the dream noting that the person doing the measuring has decided the answer in advance, and the scales are now ritual cover for a judgement that was already made.
