Deep listening
Attending fully to another's voice — listening in which the listener is not preparing a response.
Deep listening in a dream is the dream's image of attention fully given to another's voice without the listener preparing a response. The ordinary kind of listening half-waits for the speaker to finish; deep listening does not. The dream brings deep listening when something in your life — a conversation that has been needing a witness, a confession, a long-held story — is finally being met by the kind of attention that lets the speaker hear themselves. Deep listening offered through to the end is the dream affirming the gift of the honest hearing. Deep listening interrupted by the listener's own urgency, the speaker cut off mid-sentence, is the dream noting that the rare attention was promised and was, in the moment, withdrawn.
