Neptune in the 4th House

The 4th House governs home, family, roots, and the private emotional foundation. Neptune here makes that territory hazy. Family of origin often included a parent with addiction, mental illness, chronic illness, or simply an absence — physical or emotional — that left a particular indistinctness about where you come from. You may not be entirely sure what your childhood was actually like, even now. Home itself can have a dreamlike quality. Houses you remember imperfectly, moves that blur in memory, household climates that shifted in ways you could not predict. Many Neptune in the 4th people are drawn to homes near water, with particular light, or with atmospheres that other placements would not notice but that you can feel immediately. Roots are often complicated. You may not have a clear sense of where home is geographically, ethnically, or spiritually. The longing for a home that you cannot quite name is a real feature of the placement. Some people resolve this through conscious construction of chosen home; others continue to carry the longing as part of who they are.
