Number 10: The Wheel of Fortune

The tenth arcanum is the law of cycles. As an energy in the matrix, the Wheel marks someone whose life will visibly move through phases — periods of expansion, periods of contraction, sudden reversals, unexpected ascents. You are not in static circumstance; you are on a moving thing, and your task is to stay alert to the turn rather than assume the current position is permanent. The shadow of the Ten is fatalism. The arcanum's awareness of cycles can become a passivity — 'what will be will be' — that abdicates the real agency you still have within the cycle. The Wheel turns, but you choose how you ride it. The growth task is conscious participation: reading the phase you are in, acting accordingly, and not confusing acceptance of the cycle with surrender of your own choices.

Resilience through change, awareness of cycles, the ability to ride reversals, good timing, capacity to adapt, perspective on temporary states, openness to fortune, willingness to begin again after losses, philosophical acceptance.

Fatalism, passivity, abdication of agency, gambling and risk-taking without judgement, identifying with the current phase too strongly (whether high or low), waiting for the wheel to turn rather than acting within the present phase, dramatic interpretation of ordinary fluctuations.

Read the phase you are in and act accordingly. Expansion phases are for building; contraction phases are for consolidation. Neither phase is permanent. Resist fatalism; the wheel turns, but your hands are still on the reins. Maintain a stable centre — practices, relationships, values — that does not change with the cycle. Honour the cycle without surrendering to it.
