Yak

A long-haired highland ox — heavy, woolly endurance made for thin air.

A yak in a dream is the dream's image of heavy, woolly endurance made for thin air. The yak lives at heights where most pack animals would die; everything about the yak — the coat, the lungs, the slow gait — is calibrated to a country other animals cannot work in. The dream brings the yak when something in your life — a body of work, a long expedition, a difficult season — is being carried by a part of you that was specifically built for the altitude you are now at. A yak laden and moving steadily up a pass is the dream affirming the design. A yak brought down to the lowlands, suffering in the heat, is the dream noting that the same specialised endurance is now in the wrong country, and its strengths have become its burden.
