Sleeping Work in dreams

The part of you that earns its place — and the strain on it.

Sleeping in the dream means the symbol is present but dormant. The base reading still applies, but it is not active right now — sometimes the dream is asking whether you want to wake it up.

Dreaming about work is the dictionary's image of the part of your life where you produce, perform, and are evaluated. A smooth work dream where you do the job well is unusual; far more often work appears in dreams as the part of life under most current strain.

Being late, unprepared, or in the wrong role at work is the dictionary's image of feeling out of position in your actual job. Being fired in a dream — if it is not a recent waking-life event — is almost always the dream releasing fear of being inadequate, not predicting it.

Where you often see it. A workplace you have not been at in a long time. A workplace with unfamiliar tasks. The dream uses work for the part of you that earns its place — and the strain on it.

What it is not. A work dream is not always literal job anxiety. The dictionary often reads it as the dreamer's relationship to effort.

Related in the dictionary. Read work with office contexts, tools, hands, and any scene of effort exchanged for standing.
