River mouth

A river meeting the sea — the place where a long course gives up its current to a body that does not have one.

A river mouth in a dream is the dream's image of a long course giving itself up to a body that no longer needs a direction. The river has been moving with intent since the spring; at the mouth the intent dissolves. The dream brings the river mouth when something in your life — a long career, a major project, a particular stretch of self — is reaching the place where the directed energy is going to be merged into something larger and less specific. A river arriving cleanly at the sea is the dream affirming that the journey is ending in its proper body of water. A river silting up at the mouth, the channel choked, is the dream noting that the last passage was not kept open, and the long course is being held back from the sea by what it carried down.
