Exile
A removed-ness from the place that was home — life lived where you do not, in the deeper sense, belong.
Exile in a dream is the dream's image of a removed-ness from the place that was home. Exile is not travel; the traveller knows they can return. The dream brings exile when something in your life — a fall from a position, a family rupture, a country left behind — has placed you in a context where you can function but where you do not, in the deeper sense, belong. Exile lived with dignity and a kept inner home is the dream telling you the displacement is survivable and the self has been preserved. Exile in which the inner home has also been abandoned is the dream noting that the displacement has finished its work and there is no longer anywhere to return to.
