Rough Eraser in dreams

A small tool that removes pencil marks — the permission to take back a provisional decision.

Rough texture adds friction — the symbol is real and useable but the surface of the situation has been worn. The dream is rarely critical; it is noting that the work of it has left marks.

An eraser in a dream is the dream's image of being allowed to take something back. Erasers do not work on ink; they work on the marks made in the drafting phase, when reversal is still cheap. The dream brings the eraser when you have made a provisional move — a plan, a sketch, a tentative promise — that you are now permitted to undo without much cost. An eraser cleanly removing the mark is the dream affirming that the reversal is fine. An eraser smudging the page or tearing the paper is the dream noting that you waited too long to take the mark back, and the attempt to undo it is now damaging the page itself.
