Cartographer

A maker of maps — a person whose work is rendering large country into a portable representation.

A cartographer in a dream is the dream's image of the worker whose job is rendering large country into a representation that fits in the hand. The cartographer chooses what to leave out; every map is also a deliberate omission. The dream brings the cartographer when something in your life — a long explanation, a history being summarised, a relationship being described to a third party — is being reduced for portability, and the choices about what to include and exclude are now what the map will be. A cartographer working honestly is the dream affirming the faithful representation. A cartographer leaving out roads the buyer needs to know about is the dream noting that the omission is shaping the future use of the map, and the user does not yet realise what is missing.
