Grey Bear in dreams

Strength held in reserve — and the warning when it stops being held.

Grey colour layers ambiguity onto the symbol. The base meaning is still there, but the dream is saying you do not yet have the colour information — the situation has not declared itself.

A bear in a dream is the dictionary's image of strength held in reserve. A bear at rest is gentle. A bear roused is the dream's image of one of the most reliable warnings in the dictionary: something in your life — usually a relationship — is being pushed past the point where it can stay calm.

A mother bear is the dictionary's image of fierce protectiveness, usually around a child, a project, or a value the dreamer has been told to compromise on.

Where you often see it. A bear at the edge of a clearing. A bear approaching slowly. The dream uses the bear for strength held in reserve — and the warning when it stops being held.

What it is not. A bear is not always threat. The dictionary often reads it as the dreamer's own restrained power.

Related in the dictionary. Read bear with bear-cub (the young form), lion (a different power register), and any scene where restraint is the strength.
